Poem-A-Day Challenge: Day 10

April is National Poetry Month so I’m tackling the Writer’s Digest 2019 April PAD Challenge hosted by Robert Lee Brewer.

Today’s prompt: Write a lone poem. Perhaps the poem is about a solitary wanderer or person who just prefers to go it alone. Or a lone winner, lone wolf, or some other solo individual. Or alternatively, I’ll accept poems that are about loans or that are about being alone.

I IMAGINE FOR YOU A LIFE

where you are not dazzled by wealth or cowed by fame,
where you do not follow the crowd just because it is the crowd
but let your steps be ordered by Him alone.

I imagine for you a life
where you are unswayed by naysayers and hecklers, bullies and wannabes,
where you do not live by the approval of others,
even if it means you must stand alone.

I imagine for you a life
where you are not obsessed with acclaim or immersed in self,
where you do not look away from sorrow or turn away from need
but offer yourself, generous and kind,
just as He did
alone.
